A Message to My (and FRISKY) Fans

As most of you noticed we (about “us”) have a NEW FRISKY. Learn more about this here if you didn’t know. I just want to add some things that you should know when you used to download my shows from Soundcloud in the past (or unofficial sources that mostly offer bad quality). Because this is no more.

SOUNDCLOUD

I don’t intend to bitch about Soundcloud, but it seems I also don’t get completely around it, really. All in all it’s a great service I used to enjoy a lot, apart from some minor itches. Soundcloud definitely revolutionized the way to listen to music on the web, I have much respect for that. Unfortunately these minor itches cause a major effect on my personal uploading politics.

I’m not willing to play games that a lot of people play on Soundcloud. Today you can buy followers, fans, comments, likes, reposts and whatnot. Every single fan/follower on ALL social networks/media of mine is real. It’s not the super numbers like Gavid Duetta and those likes, but it’s a TRUE and REAL follower-fan-base. I love my fans, and I love to interact with them. Real people.

As a paying customer at Soundcloud I can’t accept this. I pay FOR YOU, for the fans to be able to download my stuff. The least I expect then from Soundcloud is that they keep their house clean. This is not really working good, to say the least. This year in October (I guess) I will not renew my Pro account at Soundcloud. Means: No more lots of downloads for you anyway.

Then there is that ridiculous copyright infringement reports by labels and artists, whether they’re right or wrong. Would mean at least: No tracklisting anymore. I can’t accept supporting labels and artists by showcasing them on my shows, then they report a copyright infringement? What part of “promotion” did you not understand, fella?

QUESTION

Why would I or FRISKY point people to Soundcloud when we offer a better service?

“WHERE CAN I LISTEN TO AND DOWNLOAD YOUR SETS IN THE FUTURE?”

… you might want to know. Fear not. We at FRISKY have taken care of that. Not only can you listen to EACH AND EVERY SHOW ever broadcast, you also have a tracklisting and the option to download the show in HIGHEST QUALITY, directly from FRISKY!

And come on … let’s be clear: for a very tiny monthly fee you can download AS MUCH AS YOU WANT from the #1 radio station in this field. Not much googling after your favorite artists and downloads. Just browse FRISKY and you’ll find what you love, for sure.

All this being said, I know we have already build up the best for EDM fans from all over the world, and we continue inventing and releasing new kick-ass products and services, from mobile apps to apps for devices in your car, living room, bathroom and your closet.

There is absolutely no reason to support Soundcloud, Mixcloud or any of those more and more questionable “services”. Soundcloud, do your homework. We did.

Ich bin raus

Ab Montag, dem 1. April gilt der neue DJ-Tarif der GEMA. Wie bereits angekündigt, hier nochmal offiziell:

Ich spiele keine deutschen Auftritte mehr, bis dieser Blödsinn behoben ist. Ich bin nicht bereit, mich diesem Unfug zu fügen. Mein Verständnis und mein Respekt für alle DJ-Kollegen, die sich dem fügen, hält sich in sehr überschaubaren Grenzen. Das betrifft auch die, die jetzt zurück auf Vinyl wechseln und damit der Industrie schaden, die ökonomisch zu 100% auf digitale Medien angewiesen sind.

Als DJs sitzen wir alle weltweit in einem Boot. Ich kann nicht nachvollziehen, wenn man hier nur von 12 bis Mittag denkt und sein eigenes Süppchen kocht. Ich meiner Optimalvorstellung vereinigen sich ALLE DJs gegen diesen Schwachsinn, mit EINER ganz klaren Haltung. Ich würde es begrüßen, wenn DJs sich meiner Entscheidung anschließen würden.

Dieses Gesetz muss boykottiert werden.

Neues aus der Anstalt | Achtung: GEMA inside!

Unsere herzallerliebste GEMA schlug diese Woche wieder mal mit einer wahnwitzigen Idee auf. Aber dieses Mal toppt sie wirklich alles Dagewesene. Es ist davon auszugehen, das die Strippenzieher in der GEMA unter erheblichen Wahrnehmungsstörungen leiden und gerade dabei sind, sich nach dem Fiasko einer komplett versauten Tarifreform noch weiterhin so dermaßen zu verzetteln, daß man ernsthafte Zweifel am geistigen Gesundheitszustand der besagten Entscheider hegen muss.

Ein gutes Beispiel für den Grund solcher Vermutungen ist das hier:

Kommen wir zum Aktuellen Wahnsinn. Ich versuche es so kurz und verständlich wie möglich zu machen, denn — wie ja bereits bekannt — ist alles, was von der GEMA kommt, immer genau das Gegenteil:

In Deutschland ansässige DJs, die in Deutschland spielen, sollen zukünftig 13 ct. pro Track bezahlen, welcher zur Vorführung gedacht/geeignet ist und sich auf ihren Speichermedien befindet, und zwar für JEDE Kopie desselben, egal auf welchem Speichermedium. Das bedeutet also, dass ich als DJ beispielsweise für alle 16.759 Tracks (Stand: heute) jeweils 13 ct. bezahlen soll (jährlich). Das wären dann 2.178,67 €. Diese Summe gilt lediglich für die Kopien, die sich auf meinem Laptop befinden, mit dem ich live spiele. Das Backup dieser Dateien auf einem zweiten Computer — welches ich ja zweifellos für den Notfall benötige — ist hier noch nicht mit hinzugerechnet, schlüge aber noch obendrein mit nochmal derselben Summe zu Buche. Ihr könnt selbst rechnen. Der Veranstalter/Club zahlt seine GEMA-Gebühren noch zusätzlich, wird lediglich von dem sogenannten “Laptopzuschlag” (30%) befreit, weil den ja jetzt quasi die DJs selbst bezahlen sollen.

Es ist fraglich

  • wie DJs, die nicht direkt Superstar-Gagen erzielen, das bezahlen sollen.
  • welche Spionagetechniken die GEMA anwenden will, um DJs Anzahl und Vorhandensein entsprechender Dateien nachzuweisen bzw. welche Methoden die GEMA dafür parat hält, um auch hier mal wieder die Beweislast umzukehren.
  • wie viele deutsche DJs sich diesen Blödsinn gefallen lassen und überhaupt noch in Deutschland spielen werden.

Wenn das nicht tatsächlich bitterer Ernst wäre, könnte man davon ausgehen, dass es sich hier um einen vorgezogenen Aprilscherz handelt.

JETZT muss eine gewaltige Protestwelle über die GEMA rollen! Wir reden hier von der Möglichkeit, das die deutsche Clubkultur hierdurch aussterben könnte. Bitte macht euch das alle bewusst, das ist kein Spaß.

Album Talk

Just a little heads up and background info on my forthcoming album here …

It’s shaping! I’m currently having extremely focussed studio sessions, writing the music of my life. Besides having done 4 remixes and 1 original production for Wurzelfrau in the last 4 weeks. ;-)  I have never ever worked with that large number of creative people on an album before. Details:

You know I haven’t been too much into laying stuff into other people’s hands in the past, so this is really new and exciting for me! I’m sure — and that’s why I decided to team up with the best people I could imagine — this will only help creating something perfectly wonderful.
